Shopian, Feb 26: Government District Hospital Shopian is currently functioning without a Medical Superintendent following the retirement of the previous incumbent, even as non-gazetted employees on Thursday staged a protest over non-payment of salaries for the past three months.
Hospital employees assembled within the premises and raised slogans demanding immediate release of their pending wages. The protesting staff said they have not received salaries for three consecutive months, causing severe financial distress to their families.
The employees alleged that the delay in salary disbursement has disrupted their household expenses and loan repayments. They said despite repeated representations to the authorities, no concrete action has been taken so far.
Sources within the hospital said the post of Medical Superintendent has remained vacant since the retirement of the previous officer, resulting in administrative uncertainty. Staff members expressed concern that absence of a full-time head has affected decision-making and routine administrative functioning.
The protesting employees urged the Health Department to immediately appoint a Medical Superintendent and ensure timely release of salaries. They said hospital services should not suffer due to administrative lapses and financial delays.
Officials from the district administration were informed about the protest, and assurances were reportedly given that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities for early resolution.
