Bandipora, Nov 4. The higher reaches of north Kashmir, including Razdhan Pass connecting Bandipora with Gurez Valley, received a fresh spell of snowfall on Tuesday evening, marking the significant white cover of the season. The fresh snow has turned the mountain stretch slippery, affecting vehicular movement between Gurez and the rest of the Valley.
Locals from Tulail and Dawar areas of Gurez told Kashmir News Trust that snowfall began late in the evening and continued intermittently through the night, covering upper reaches under a white blanket. Light to moderate snowfall was also reported from adjoining mountain areas, including Kanzalwan, Chorwan, and Badwan.
According to officials, the Razdhan Pass, which serves as the only surface link between Gurez and Bandipora, has become slippery due to accumulated snow, forcing authorities to issue travel advisories for drivers and transporters. “The movement of vehicles has been affected, and only essential services are being allowed with caution,” an official from the district administration said.
The Meteorological Department has confirmed reports of light snowfall over higher reaches and predicted that such activity may continue for the next 24 hours under the influence of a passing western disturbance. “Higher altitudes of north and central Kashmir may see intermittent snowfall, while plains could experience light rain,” a MeT official said.
The fresh snowfall has also led to a noticeable dip in day and night temperatures across north Kashmir, prompting locals to switch to traditional heating arrangements. [KNT]
