Five SKIMS MBBS Students Suspended Over Ragging, Fined ₹10,000 Each

SRINAGAR: Five MBBS students and interns at SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, have been suspended for one week and fined ₹10,000 each following their reported involvement in a ragging incident.According to an order issued by the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, the five were found involved in an incident of ragging that amounted to a “gross violation” of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.Those facing disciplinary action include Shubham Verma and Sunil Verma from the 2023 batch, Shahdev from the 2024 batch, and interns Rupal Suntal and Lavish Sharma from the 2021 batch.The action was taken on the recommendations of the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee. The students and interns have been barred from attending classes and participating in other academic or internship-related activities for one week.In addition, each has been directed to deposit a fine of ₹10,000 into the prescribed CD-10 account and submit the payment receipt to the Academic Section within five days of the order.The parents or guardians of all five have also been asked to appear before the Anti-Ragging Committee for further disciplinary proceedings.The order stated that failure to comply with the directions could invite further action under the applicable UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations and institutional rules.The authorities have also directed that the interns’ stipends be withheld for the duration of their suspension, in accordance with the applicable rules.
