Fire Hits Building in Srinagar’s On Eid-UL- Fitr

Srinagar, March 21. A fire broke out in a residential-cum-commercial building in the Ali Kadal area of old Srinagar city on Saturday, with firefighters preventing a major disaster through a timely response, officials said.

The incident occurred on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, when residents were engaged in festive activities, adding urgency to the response in the densely populated locality.

The blaze, officials said, originated in the upper portion of the structure and quickly spread to the top storey, causing damage before being brought under control.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert and launched an operation to contain the flames.

“Due to quick action, the fire was controlled in time and did not spread to adjacent buildings,” a Fire and Emergency Services official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Eyewitnesses said thick smoke was seen rising from the building, prompting panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes as a precaution.

“There was fear the fire could spread quickly, but the firefighters managed it well,” a local resident said.

Officials confirmed that while the top storey of the building suffered damage, the lower floors and nearby structures were largely protected from the blaze.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, according to preliminary information.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was not immediately known and would be determined after assessment.  [KNT]
