Authorities Shut Bridge Citing Safety Risks After Structural Assessment in Central Kashmir’s Chadoora

Chadoora, Nov 28.The main bridge at Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district has been closed for all types of vehicular traffic with immediate effect following damage caused by recent floods, raising concerns over public safety and disrupting daily movement in the area.

According to an official order issued by the Executive Engineer Roads and Buildings Division Chadoora, the decision was taken after experts from DIQC Srinagar inspected the structure and advised immediate closure and urgent repairs.

The order states that the bridge suffered damage due to recent floods and has been shut down in the interest of public safety until necessary repairs are completed and clearance is granted by the competent authorities.

“All commuters are requested to use alternative routes until further orders,” the order reads, while expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to the public.

Officials said traffic will be allowed on the bridge only after repair work is completed and formal safety clearance is issued. No timeline has been specified for reopening so far.

Copies of the closure order have been forwarded to the Chief Engineer PW R&B Central Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Superintending Engineer R&B Circle Budgam and Sub Divisional Magistrate Chadoora for information and necessary action.

Locals expressed concern over the sudden closure, saying the bridge is a vital link for daily commuters, school students, patients and traders. Many feared prolonged closure due to previous experiences with delayed infrastructure repairs.

Authorities have urged people to strictly avoid using the bridge and follow traffic advisories to prevent any mishap. [KNT]
